Exciting plans are underway for a new design for the First XVIII football guernsey to be worn for the Indigenous Round match during National Reconciliation Week at the end of May 2020. Football captains, Lachie D, Malachy C and James H worked with students, Leon C and Nathan S and Yamatji Noongar artist Sasha Hill to consider ways of representing our Indigenous students and program, school, football team and wider community.
The final design, which will be revealed in full during National Reconciliation Week, includes symbols to represent the landscapes of St Peters, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Rich blues and gold with contrasting touches of gold and white reflect the Saints colours and history. Other aspects of the painting represent our School values, our Houses and the journey we have each undertaken to become a part of the St Peter’s College community.
The guernsey design aims to raise awareness of our School’s commitment to demonstrating respect for and understanding of Indigenous culture through reconciliation. Those involved in the design are extremely proud because of the significant story and meaning shared through the artwork.
