Council of Governors

Archbishop Geoffrey Smith was appointed President and Visitor in 2017.

He was ordained a deacon in 1982 and priest in 1983 and served in the Anglican Diocese of Grafton (1982–1987 and 1990–2000), the Diocese of Aipo Rongo, PNG (1987–1990), the Anglican Board of Mission (2000–2005) and the Diocese of Brisbane (2005–2017).

Mark was elected as Chair of the Council of Governors in August 2022.

Appointed to the Council in 2011, Mark is a parent of two old scholars and served 10 years as chairman of the Old Scholars. He is currently a member of the Emergency Committee and the Remuneration and Review Committee, and a former chair of the Finance Committee.

Mark has extensive business, education and governance experience. He is a director of Infrastructure Australia, Celsus (PPP partner of the Royal Adelaide Hospital), aged care operator ACH Group and Evans & Ayers. He has a Masters in Finance from London Business School as well as degrees in economics and law from the University of Adelaide.

Andrew was appointed to the Council in 2015 and elected Deputy Chair in August 2022. He is an old scholar and past parent and is a member of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Facilities Committee.

Formerly President of the Legislative Council of the South Australian Parliament, Andrew is now a Senator for South Australia in the Commonwealth Parliament.

Prior to his election to the Legislative Council he held senior leadership and executive positions in the financial services industry.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide, a Master of Laws from the University of Edinburgh and a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management (University of Sydney and University of NSW). He is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Suzanne was appointed in 2012. She is a current parent and is a member of the Finance Committee, and the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

She has degrees in law and commerce, both from The University of Melbourne. Suzanne has practised in commercial law for over 30 years and is currently a Barrister at the South Australian Bar. She has significant board and committee experience, including more than 10 years as a board member of the South Australian Lotteries Commission.

Julia was appointed in 2020. She is a current parent and a member of the Facilities Committee.

Julia has a Master of Laws from the Sorbonne (Paris), and an Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from Flinders University. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of
Company Directors.

Julia is a Counsel at global law firm, Clifford Chance.

Jim was appointed in 2016. He is a current parent and is a member of the Facilities Committee and the Nominations Committee.

Jim has a law degree from the University of Warwick (England). He joined British Aerospace in 1996 and was Chief Executive Officer of BAE Systems Australia from 2001 to 2011 and from 2011 until 2013 he was Chief Executive Officer of BAE Systems Saudi Arabia. He is a former Chair of a range of boards including the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Defence CRC for Trusted Autonomous System and Total Construction.

Jim was the Chancellor of the University of South Australia from 2016 to 2018 and Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet until December 2020. He is now the Deputy Secretary Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment at the Australian Department of Defence.

Carol was appointed in 2019 as a representative of the Diocesan Council. She is a member of the Facilities Committee. Carol is a practising Senior Project Manager at an Australian engineering consultancy firm with a specialty in water infrastructure.

Carol has a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Project Management from Adelaide universities. She holds the credentials of Project Management Professional, Certified Practising Project Manager and a PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification.

Marcus was appointed in 2016. He is a current parent, old scholar and is a member of the Emergency Committee, the Nominations Committee, and Chair of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Marcus is General Counsel and Company Secretary of Adbri and a member of Adbri's executive management team. An experienced commercial lawyer, he has previously held positions as General Counsel of FH Faulding & Co, Senior Legal Counsel – Pharmaceuticals with Mayne Group, and he was a partner with solicitors Finlaysons.

David was appointed in 2020. He is an old scholar, former School Captain and is a member of the Finance Committee.

A technology enthusiast, David founded Uber in Australia in 2012, and is now a Venture Partner with the South Australian Venture Capital Fund. He holds an MBA from Stanford, and a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Finance from Adelaide University.

Richard was appointed in 2017 as a representative of the St Peter’s Foundation Inc of which he is President. He is a current parent, old scholar, and a member of the Facilities Committee, the Nominations Committee and the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Richard is an experienced dental surgeon. He currently holds board positions in health, education and not-for-profit organisations within private and public sectors, including a long involvement with philanthropic organisations. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The Reverend Canon Jenny Wilson was appointed in 2019 as an ex officio nominee of the Archbishop.

Jenny is Canon Precentor of St Peter's Cathedral and exercises oversight of the Cathedral’s liturgy, education and pastoral care ministry. A former mathematics teacher, Jenny completed her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Theology through St Barnabas Theological College.

Adam was appointed in 2019. He is a current parent, old scholar, former School Captain.

Adam has held senior management and director positions in the commercial property and finance industry in a career spanning valuation, asset management and banking in Adelaide and London. He holds a Bachelor of Business (Property), a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment, is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and an Associate of the Australian Property Institute. Adam is currently a Director at Stamford Capital Australia.

David was appointed in 2017 to the Council of Governors as an ex officio nominee of the Archbishop. He is a past parent.

David is the Archdeacon of The City of Adelaide and The Port and Assistant to the Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia

Fiona is a current parent of three boys and joined the Council of Governors in 2022.

Fiona has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Anatomical Sciences, has worked in a number of roles in academic and commercial medical research and has been involved in multiple start-up companies in South Australia.

Fiona is the State President and National Vice President of the National Council of Women and the Chair of the Premier’s Council for Women.

She is former Deputy Chair of the Australia Day Council SA, Vice President vivoPharm Pty Ltd and CEO Surgical Research Australia.

In these roles, her pillars of focus are impact and outcomes through collaboration and partnerships, determining best evidence-based practice, social and community policy reform and change through advocacy.
